AI Showdown: 5-Min Exercise to Sexier Titles

The Feedback That Sparked This Experiment

Recently, a friend of mine, Kate, gave me some valuable feedback about one of my email subject lines, which was a bit… flat:

My Content Marketing Production Set Up—Sunday Start, Issue #3.

She encouraged me to spice it up, and this got me thinking—what if I could use AI to help generate sexier, more engaging subject lines? And what better way to compare results than by putting three AI tools to the test?

This blog article compares SubjectLine.com, Claude AI, and ChatGPT, with each platform generating different variations of the same subject line.

Let’s dive into the results:

SubjectLine.com: Quick Results, Limited Context

For those who haven’t used it, SubjectLine.com is a tool that evaluates subject lines based on engagement potential. While it’s simple to use, it doesn’t allow you to provide much context about the email content itself, which might lead to less tailored results. That said, it does return a variety of options that focus on fun, urgency, tactics, and suspense.

Here’s what SubjectLine.com generated based on my original subject line:

SubjectLine.com Suggestions

  • ORIGINAL: My Content Marketing Production Set Up
  • MORE FUN: Peek Inside My Content Creation Hub
  • MORE FUN: Behind the Scenes: My Content Magic
  • URGENCY: Transform Your Content Strategy Today
  • URGENCY: Revamp Your Content Setup Now!
  • TACTIC CHANGE: ✔️Critical Content Marketing Production Setup
  • TACTIC CHANGE: ⚡Critical Content Marketing Production Strategy
  • SUSPENSEFUL: Peek Inside My Content Lab…
  • SUSPENSEFUL: Unlock Your Content Goldmine…

My Take on SubjectLine.com

Based on the results, SubjectLine’s strengths shine through in creating short and punchy subject lines. The added curiosity and playfulness makes them more likely to grab attention.

Kate mentioned that she liked the “more fun” variations the most, like “Peek Inside My Content Creation Hub.” I agree!

These subject lines are technically superior to the other generated AI titles, given that this is its one function. However, the limited context and follow up conversation that I was allowed is frustrating. I’d likely be forced to take the results to ChatGPT if I needed to continue working on it.

Claude AI: Personalization and Context Shine

Next, I tested Claude AI. Here, I briefly introduced myself and explained the context behind my newsletter, including its content and my business, Fun4business. With that extra information, Claude AI generated more tailored results that aligned with my goals.

Here are the top five suggestions:

Claude AI Suggestions

  • Tame Your Content Chaos: My Simple Folder System Revealed
  • From Idea to Published: Streamline Your Content Marketing Today
  • Struggling with Content Organization? Here’s My Secret Weapon
  • The Assembly Line Approach to Content Marketing Success
  • Unlock Your Content Potential: A Google Drive Hack for Marketers

My Take on Claude AI

I appreciated that Claude’s suggestions were very specific to my email content, especially “Struggling with Content Organization? Here’s My Secret Weapon,” which Kate also loved. However, some of the subject lines were a bit long, which could be a drawback if I wanted to keep the “— Sunday Start, Issue #3” part at the end. Still, the relevance and clarity were spot on.

ChatGPT: My Personal AI Assistant

Now, let’s see how ChatGPT stacks up. After sharing the same context and newsletter content, here’s what ChatGPT came up with:

ChatGPT Suggestions

  1. Streamline Your Content with My Google Drive System
  2. How I Organize Content: Behind the Scenes of My Workflow
  3. Need Content Structure? My Simple Folder Hack Revealed
  4. Say Goodbye to Content Chaos with This Folder System
  5. Unlock Content Consistency: My Personal Setup for Success
  6. How to Master Content Marketing with My Streamlined Setup

My Take on ChatGPT

ChatGPT had an advantage because I also input the other two AI programs suggestions before it completed the task. Heck – with AI you need to use all your advantages to get the best results!

ChatGPT’s suggestions hit the sweet spot between creativity and clarity. These subject lines were not too long, and they effectively balance excitement with informative value.

The Final Verdict: Which AI Wins?

After testing all three platforms, here’s my conclusion:

  • SubjectLine.com is great for punchy, playful lines, but without context or follow-up conversation, the results may sometimes miss the mark in terms of relevance.
  • Claude AI excels when it has more information to work with, making it ideal for personalized and detailed subject lines, though they can sometimes be lengthy. Next time, I will provide a maximum number of characters it can work with.
  • ChatGPT offers a blend of clarity and brevity, while keeping the subject line connected to the content and adding a hint of intrigue.

Allison's Top 6 Alternative Email Subject Lines

Here are my favourite spiced-up subject lines based on the exercise:

  1. Peek Inside My Content Creation Hub (SubjectLine)
  2. Revamp Your Content Setup Now (SubjectLine)
  3. Say Goodbye to Content Chaos with This Folder System (ChatGPT)
  4. Struggling with Content Organization? Here’s My Secret Weapon (ClaudeAI)
  5. How I Organize Content: Behind the Scenes of My Workflow (ChatGPT)
  6. Streamline Your Content with My Google Drive System (ChatGPT)

And the Winner is... Claude AI

If I could send out my email again, this is the Subject Line I would choose:

Tame Your Content Chaos: My Simple Folder System Revealed —Sunday Start, Issue #3.

My whole goal with this particular piece of my soon-to-launch manageable content marketing system is to give a sneak peek into my genius folder system. I don’t want to imply that this is the whole system, which some of the subject lines suggested. I want my subject lines to accurately depict the information I’m sharing, while sounding a lot juicier than the original titles that come out of my brain.

Conclusion: Take 5 Minutes to Improve Your Titles

This exercise showed me how powerful AI tools can be when it comes to brainstorming subject lines. However, as with any tool, it’s important to add your own spin and understanding of your audience to get the best results.

Thanks again to Kate for her feedback—and if you’re reading this, let me know which AI-generated subject line you would open!
