Websites — Can you do it yourself?

Interestingly, WordPress, and other commercialized free, open-source website providers, are advertised as programs that anyone can set up and run themselves. Additionally, the “free” or low cost lures people in to give it a try. The only thing you have to lose is your time, right?!

But is this really the case?

The truth is, setting up a website, regardless of the platform, takes a number of technical and design skills that the average person has not acquired nor practiced. At Fun4business, we get calls from people who were convinced by their web hosts that building websites is super easy. For example, the web host pre-loads a blank WordPress website onto the client’s domain name and sends the admin login to the business owner. When the client logs in to his brand new website, he is instantly overwhelmed because he doesn’t know where to start or how to do anything.

Additionally, rarely have we built a website that goes together without a little troubleshooting, advanced customization and specialized knowledge. The truth is, building a website is not that easy if it’s not something you do regularly.

If you have a lot of time on your hands – and are genuinely interested – then perhaps you will have success building your own website. There are many tutorials available on the Internet and YouTube to help you out.

If, on the other hand, you want your new website done quickly and looking professional, give us a call and you’ll be so glad you did.
